Our gymnasts at Zinc Class Competition in Perth

Last weekend 10 of our gymnasts competed all 4 apparatus each showing few nerves which was the aim of the trip since it was(for most) their first ever competition on all 4 apparatus.
Julia and Bella missed out on their age group competition due to it being on the Friday and Scottish Gymnastics wouldn’t change it (despite us telling them way before entries were put in and telling us they would accommodate us due to travel restrictions). They got to show all their routines on Saturday and got scores which would have resulted in joint silver on vault.
Very frustrating that geographical disadvantages and lack of a full time facility have on our youth. If we had our own facility with full time coaches we could have travelled earlier to allow these competitions on week days.
The other gymnasts did themselves and the club proud and hope to continue building on their scores over the next year or two.

Summer Training Camp

It’s been a busy week or so for the club. 3 coaches attending Level 3 modules and 1 attending Level 2 course at the McTaggart Sports Centre in Dundee – long overdue courses!
Some of our gymnasts who are competing next month spent 3 days training at Garioch Gymnastics Club so they could practise their floor routines on a sprung floor before competing! All gymnasts improved skills and all now completed handspring front tuck somersault floor skills. Another successful trip.
Thank you so much to Garioch GC for allowing us time in your gym, to Northlink Ferries for their continued sponsorship, to Shetland Community Benefit Fund for the funding to allow our gymnasts to train in a purpose built facility and to Bolts Minibus hire as well as the parents and gymnasts who make our trips so enjoyable.

Well done Maddie, Rihannon and Vikky!

Well done to Maddie and Rhiannon on passing their first coaching exam WA L1 and Vikky her 3rd exam but first WA L1 course. The girls had to travel to Orkney for the course and exam and it’s finally over. Big thank you to Jocelyn Amy Tulloch at Orkney Gymnastics Club for looking after the girls whilst they were in Orkney and for providing gymnasts for them to do their exams today. Congratulations girls!

Garioch Glitterball Competition

Some of our younger gymnasts had a short but busy trip away to the Garioch Glitterball Competition yesterday. Crazy busy morning for our youngest competitors in the age 7,8,9 and 10 age groups. Silver on vault and bronze overall for Zara Nicolson Katrina Nicolson in her first ever competition which was well deserved. All gymnasts were amazing, completing all skills with no nerves or tears. Really proud of them all 👏🏻
